Sleep Paralysis Stories - Something Pinned Me Down

This is a story someone told me a few weeks back from their personal experience. This particular person, I should mention, has been a practitioner of the qabalah for quite a few years. I mention this because such a person has a slightly different take on things than that of your average person and is likely to act differently in certain situations given their knowledge.
The experience he told was from a while ago but he recalled half waking, with the sensation of being held down by a weight on his chest. He could see a large black shape on his chest. He described the shape as sitting there like a cat, just looking at him. It was a being of some sort, what, he didn't know. His main concern at this point was getting free of it. Although he couldn't physically move he moved his right arm outside of his physical arm (as you might in achieving an OBE) and grabbed the being and hurled it through the window next to his bed.

He described the shock of this thing when he grabbed hold of it, as if that had never happened to it before and was totally un-expected. (I can't remember if this was a sense or from it's appearance). I should imagine it even less expected to be hurled out of a window. In retrospect he expressed regret in his action and felt sorry for what ever it was that was sat on him that night.

I know many sleep paralysis victims have experienced the sensation and or belief that they have been pinned down in their sleep by something or someone. While there are many possible explanations for this which we'll go into another time I'll just mention the story of the succubus.

The Succubus is a female spirit that visits young men in their sleep to copulate with them. It tends to visit only teenage boys because they are brimming with hormones at that age and give the succubus a high amount of sexual energy on which she feeds and sustains herself.

Other details of the succubus vary depending on the source as its one of those creatures that features in mythologies across the world.

You will still here stories of people today who undergo the succubus experience. A reality or a common dream?

  1. You seem intrested in this issue and someone who could maybe use my information. SO I am willing to tell you my sleep paralysics story.

Two times when I had sleep paralysis all i expirenced was extream emotion. Simply emotion so great that it was overwhelming. The first time it was fear, and the second was affection. I remember gasping for breath. And struggling to fight my way from it. Both times is occured in the early morning for me, award dawn.

Another time I had sleep paralysis was on Christmas Eve to years ago around 12 pm, I fell asleep and instantly was paralyzed. I was in the usual semi-counsious state and saw a white ghostly figure hovering over me. It was not a friendly looking creature. And i fought it until finally i was free. Another time about a year before this incident I dreamt a demonic force was choking me and finally I was released. (this incident occured at dawn as well)

My latest expirence which occured yesterday afternoon was by far the most bizaree. During the paralysis state I felt like i was connecting with another being, she was lonley her spouse was at work, she wanted to leave but was forbidden. She was is a apartment so white it was sicking. I felt her emotions not my own. I then awoke. only to fall back asleep 10 minutes later, expirence the paralysis sensation again (but this time i didn't fight it) and learn that she had been raped, as well a series of other consequences. It was weried since normally my dreams focus soley around myself and I have never seen this woman, or this city she was in.

I am a woman of science... I believe in science.. find comfort in it. But the REM sleep theory didn't match up with me. Only once in these incodences was i lying on my back like medical professionals say occurs during the episodes. At all times i know i am awake, i know this isn't whats actually happening... and I know that I have to fight it.

    Sincerely,

  2. Hi Heavy Dreamer,

I don't know how but I somehow missed this comment! Thanks for the input!

That's quite facinating in that the last tale is not your typical sleep paralysis experience. It almost sounds like an excursion into the astral realms!?

The more I study this subject the deeper it gets and the less explicable some things become within our frame reference of everyday reality.

I shall continue to explore and please tell us if you have anymore experiences.

  3. Hi

I have suffered from sleep paralysis quite a few times, it happened to me twice last night, once when i was lying down on my back, and i felt the usual weight on my body, i try to shout, but no sound comes out of my mouth, i couldn't even open my mouth. Eventually i peirced out of it. The second time, came almost seconds after the first, but i was crouched at the edge of my bed in an upright position, i could feel something behind me, and i felt something that felt like fingers in my sides holding me. I couldn't speak so i tried to hit my head on the wall to call my brother, but i couldn't move it. I then pierced out of it, and i was lying down. Another time when it happened to me i almost pre-empted it, and i was flung from behind to all corners of the ceiling in my room, it was very terrifying.

Im not sure what it really is, a lot of evidence points to the science of REM and neurons in the brian, but some believe that it is to do with psychic aura's and spirits etc. I also suffer from lucid dreaming and intense dreaming experiences.

  4. Quite a few points of interet there S. I don't know how many of the posts you've read through here but I can see some parallels in your story. Firstly the time you were flung to all corners of the room at the ceiling sounds exactly like one of my out of body experiences.

Secondly in one experience you say you were crouched, upright at the end of the bed but when you came out of it you were lying down. I think this is because one of your other bodies, (the etheric or astral)was crouched at the end of the bed. Your desperate attempt to move your physical reeled you back in to your physical body which was still in bed. Once your bodies were together again you could move and the paralysis ended.

Its confusing when your concious of these processes for the first time. You try to move one of your bodies and find you are controlling another. You were trying to bang your etheric head on the wall but I believe your mind was targetting the effort to your physical muscles, steering the experience to an end. The hands holding you by the side were most likley trying to help. Fear takes over in sleep paralysis and we struggle like a rabbit caught in a snare.

The problem with sleep paralysis is we often wake after a separation of our bodies has occurred and we're left wondering what the hell is going on. Try to initiate a out of body experienece yourself and your understanding and control of the situation will expand and your fear will lessen.

On the subject of Lucid dreaming, it was strange that you say you suffer from it. Do you not find it a comfortable experience. Lucid dreaming can be used as a gateway to all sorts of amazing, life changing experiences if you use them correctly.

Why not tell us of some of your experiences with those too?

  5. I also experienced something very similar only a few days back, i was in bed fast asleep and suddenly awoke to the feeling of being held down by something ,i new i was in my room as it was dark but could make out the outline of my door to my en suite it felt as real as anything it even (whatever it was) tried to suffocate me with my own duvet , and was trying to do things sexually to me, it felt like i was fighting for my life,i was very fearful and upset and tried to somehow get mysef free, which seemed like a struggle and just couldnt move anything more than my head , and the frightening thing about it was i could sense it was a man and not very nice , i really fought to get up and as strange as it sounds i found myself in the corner of my room with my face in the wall and before i knew it i was back on my bed like i had floated there and floated back again, ive never ever experienced anything so bizare in all my life, i got so upset and frustrated that i shouted f@ck off and leave me alone and it stopped until i realised my legs were in the air and i had to get them down then somehow i drifted back to sleep and when i woke up was really scared about what i had experienced i told a few people and they all thought i was mad but really it did happen to me and would love to know what happened and why....

if anybody could please help me understand id be very greatful

    thankyou

  6. When you travelled to the corner of the room and back to the bed did you see anything at all?

One possible explanation for your experience goes as follows. You were in the corner of the room, at this distance from your physical body in the bed you are going to generate what is termed feedback. The feedback causes in the physical body a sence of fear and sensations such as pressure on the chest, this pressure/sensation can extend to other parts of the body causing the panic stricken mind to assume it is being smothered or sexually interferred with. What is actually occuring is that your travelling body is trying to get back in but for some reason you've woken up before it's in and the unfamiliar situation of the paralysis and the sensations has understandably got you freaked.

  7. thankyou so much for your reply......

As i can recall my room was dark so couldnt really see anything but sensed that i was not alone,

if that makes any sense at all...?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yes that makes perfect sense. Nearly all SP episodes come with the feeling that there is something else close by. (Are you starting to understand why yet?) For me I often would be able to hear noises but paralysed I obviously couldn't even look to see what it was. I'd sometimes think a burglar had broken in to my home.

  9. Three night's ago while going to sleep, I had a sudden FEAR that I wasn't alone anymore and whatever was with me was evil I felt utter panic (I was laying on my left side)I moved position onto my back and almost instantly felt something sit on my chest pinning me down, well I cant really say that I was pinned down because I simply couldn't move. I could see my body doing nothing but at the same time my arms were thrashing about trying to fight this thing off me I know now that it was OBE, this thing wasn't alone either I could feel doom everywhere in my room and I was screaming for help, there are seven of us living in the house and I was trying to wake any of them for help it was only when this thing released me that I realised that all of the screaming I was doing hadn't actually left my mouth... I grabed my pillow and ran to sleep with my six year old son, the next night while trying (had my son in my bed with me) to get to sleep my bedside lamp turned on, so as not to scare my son I told him it was faulty and just turned it off needless to say I couldn't sleep. Last night I had a peaceful sleep. I have talked to my husband about what happened to me, he said "what a load of crap, you were dreaming" and there was all my support, thankyou so much for understanding.

  10. Monica,

Thanks for telling us about your experience. It sounds like it was pretty terrifying. Is that the first time you've had an nightime experience such as this? It's good to hear that you have slept peacfully since the episode. If you become too afraid it can really disturb your well being if you cannot sleep soundly. Thankfully you have recognised this to some extent for what it is and have recovered from the shock.
The important thing to remember is that these are rare occurances on the whole and one bad experience doesn't necessarily mean you will have another. Having found my blog and read the posts within it will have hopefully given you enough insight to no longer be afraid.
Understanding what is happening takes away the fear and gives you back some control.
It's difficult for those who have no experience of these experiences to understand them as most people will have never even heard of such things.
    Thanks for your comment.

  11. hi i had a strange experience last night. i fell asleep lying on my stomach last night at approx 11.23pm. after what seemed a long time asleep i got this strange sensation at the back of my neck. it was a feeling of a lot of sort of pinching sensation at the back of my neck .if i had to explain it properly i would say it was a swarm of bees buzzing through my skin just at the nape of my neck together wit a very high pitched tone comin out through my right ear. i could hear my self saying stoooppppp in a long word and my eyes open i could see out my bedroom door. after a few minutes or maybe long seconds i snapped out of it but had a very bad headache and ear ache which lasted momentarily. it was a though someone or something was trying to implant something into my neck like sickness or something. can anyone relate to or tell me what this experience was. it was quite scary.. !!

  12. Unless you get this kinda a thing often I wouldn't worry too much about it, if it's just a one off experience.
To explain what your experience was might not be accurate having not experienced as you have. I'd say if you want to know, do a little furthr reading on OOBEs

    http://sleep-paralysis-no-more.blogspot.com/2009/05/thing-that-you-call-you-is-made-of-more.html

and see if this sounds similar. Its possibly OOBE related by the sound of it.

  14. Hi the same happened to me twice last night, i awoke about 2am being pinned to the bed unable to scream, there was an eary presence in my room and bizarrely my tv turned its self on.Something impossible for me to of done as the control was the otherside of the room and i hadnt been watching it that evening! I then eventually drifted off again then 4.48 it happened again this time without the TV being switched on.

I have done my research on sleep paralysis and none of it involves tv's turning themselves on! Also research says it happens 2 or 3 times in a lifetime, its now happened 4 times in 2 months. I have moved into a new house in March 2010 it is a new build. Could someone please help these are becoming more and more frequent!

    Thanks

  15. Hey guys,

Very interesting stories. My first episode was when I was 16 years old and I saw an evil like ghost figure floating towards my bed. I woke up once it reached my bedside.

I have had several SP episodes since (25 now) but have never seen any figures or presences since that first occurrence. A few weeks ago, I woke up in a SP state and felt something pulling on my ankles and dragging me in my bed. It then lifted me from my side and thats when I woke up. 2 nights ago, I again woke up in a SP state, and saw a girl with her hair covering her face walking towards my bed. I was terrified and started praying which is when I woke up (the prayer always helps me wake up).

Since then, I have been doing a lot of research on the subject. It seems like a lot of the scientific explanations make sense except for the part where everyone seems to have similar episodes of seeing an evil figure or something pinning them down. I just don't understand why it is the same occurrence for most people when they have not learned of other people's stories? Any thoughts?

  16. First time I experienced SP I too saw an eerie figure at the foot of my bed. It was a tall dark siloet of a robbed man, pretty scary when you can't move! I've never seen anyone since just here noises and this post made a lot of sence to me

I reckon when you see other people you are in the astral and so are they, you just don't realise it. What do you think?

Has the poster who had the TV experience considered she may be sleep walking and turning it on? Just a thought.

  19. Has happened to me on more occasions than I care to remember. Always when I am alone. Unfortunately for this forum, I am quite sure of the scientific basis and when it does happen I am no longer panicked and after the initial shock, my brain catches up, realises that the weight, presences or other "paranormal" - demon, spirit or other, is just the sensations from the dream I was having. Curiously enough, I have only experienced this when I have been sleeping alone... My question is, take away all the myth and mumbo jumbo, do others have these experiences with their partners in the same bed or room?

  20. Hey guys,

What I'm about to say is a long post, but please take time to read and give opinions as I'm quite concerned now.

I'm now 25 years old and I have problems with this on regular occasions. In fact, this has been happening to me since I was 18.
I remember the first time it happened was during basic military training, which was strange as I was sharing an old style bunk room with 8 other guys. I was pinned down in my bed and could not move or breath. It was as if someone was sitting on my chest. I tried to shout but no words would come out, I also couldn't open my eyes. After losing track of time trying to fight it, I gave up and it started to feel as though i was sinking, strangely it felt really peaceful. I then snapped out of it.
I never told nobody about it as people would think I was just being an idiot, but that is the first of many experiences since. I would say its happened over 20 times since.

But the strangest incident happened last night, about 4 hours ago to be precise, so while its fresh in my mind I'll tell you about it.
I share a house with 5 others, one guy is in the room directly above me. I heard his alarm go off, as he keeps his phone on the floor and it vibrated wking me up. I didnt open my eyes but I layed there. It was strange as I felt a presence, but not like ever before. I actually felt a person, a female in my bed, although I was alone. Then the quilt on my right leg lifted and the mattress around me started to press down, as though someone was digging their knee in for example. I felt the pinned down sensation again but I could breath this time, I struggled to scream but eventually my voice came out and the sensation immediately went away. Upon opening my eyes, nothing was there and I was still shouting for help, but my voice was quiet.
I was so freaked out and have felt drained ever since.
My girlfriend was told by a psychic that she has a slight sixth sense, and she believes I have an evil spirit attached to me. This is because it would happen at times we were in bed together and she could always feel a presence.
Has anyone any suggestions or conclusions?

    Thanks, Matt

  21. Hi Matt,

I wouldn't be overly concerned if you've only had 20 experiences in 7 years.
The fact that you felt drained by this latest experiences smells of succubi type encounter. What we expereince and what our brain interperates as going on can be misleading when we are experiencing the unknown for the first time because we have no frame of reference.
If you are concerned I would suggest making your self a talisman of protection to wear around your neck to protect you from invasive spirits. Alternatively teach yourself the banishing ritual to clean sweep your sleeping area regularly of any unwanted visitors of this world or the next.
